"It all started with a Crayon."

When Ms. McLeish of Orange City Elementary told her class to start coloring, she noticed that one of her kindergarteners named Demetrius was the only one not doing what he was told. Young Demtrius was not being insubordinate, he just did not know how to color because he had never held a crayon before. Ms. McLeish handed Demeitrius a crayon, and then a few more. Before she knew it, he had a rainbow of color on his paper and a smile on his face. A Gift for Teaching is dedicated to supplying teachers in low income communities with school supplies to help students just like Demetrius. Be sure to view the video on AGFT's home page.

To Whom It May Concern,

Future Suppliers is a UCF Cornerstone Business group. Students in the Cornerstone class work in teams to manage a project for a non-profit organization, while learning the value of charitable giving in the community. We are partnering with A Gift For Teaching, whose mission is to help improve public education by transferring our community’s surplus materials and resources, free to teachers for their students in need. Almost half of the students in Central Florida cannot afford lunch, let alone school supplies.  In many cases, devoted teachers spend between $500-$1,000 of their own money to buy supplies for their students and classrooms.  A Gift For Teaching takes school supply donations and distributes them in their Free Store for teachers. More than 7,535 teachers from Central Florida’s highest need schools can shop for free to make sure that more than 131,000 low-income students in our community have the necessary supplies to excel in their education.

A Gift For Teaching has given Future Suppliers the challenge to raise $1,200 in monetary funds and/or school supplies.  We are hoping that your office will be able to help these students in need and join us in supplying the future—the children.  Below is a list of supplies A Gift For Teaching can use. If your office would like to make a financial donation, please write a check payable to A Gift For Teaching. You can also donate by going to www.futuresuppliers.weebly.com through PayPal. Any kind of donation is appreciated.

Also, Team Future Suppliers is planning to hold a Halo 3/Madden '09 tournament on October 29, 2008, to raise funds for A Gift For Teaching. To insure the success of this important event, we are seeking donations to use as incentives for participation at our event. If you believe in our cause and are able to make a donation, we are seeking gift certificates, products, give-a-ways or other prizes you may be willing to donate.  Your generosity will be announced to our audience throughout the event, Web site and Facebook.

If you have any questions or want to discuss this further, please contact Samantha Cheng at (954)806-1775 or Alejandro Carrillo at (561)685-2572 or e-mail us at [email protected]. To learn more about the organization, please visit their website at www.agiftforteaching.org or you can contact their Development Manager, Meredith Bekemeyer, at (407)345-0515 ext 233 or [email protected]. Thank you for your time and consideration.
